Published on April 17, 2025
The City of Douglasville proudly dedicated a Blue Star Memorial on Friday, April 11th at Hunter Memorial Park, in a ceremony that paid tribute to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. The memorial, part of a national program founded by the National Garden Clubs, Inc., stands as a lasting tribute to those who have served, are serving, or will serve in the U.S. military.
The dedication ceremony was attended by local veterans, elected officials, community members, and representatives of the Dogwood District Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., who played an active part in bringing the memorial to the city. Located in Hunter Park’s Military Honor Garden, the new marker is a poignant reminder of the city's enduring gratitude to its military community.
“As someone who has proudly worn the uniform, the memorial holds deep personal meaning,” said Mayor Rochelle Robinson, who served in the United States Army. “It is a symbol of respect and recognition for all those who serve and protect our freedoms. Douglasville is honored to be part of this nationwide tribute, and we thank all our service members-past, present, and future-for their sacrifice.”
The Blue Star Memorial program, originally established during World War II, continues to expand across the nation as communities join in recognizing the dedication and valor of the military. The City of Douglasville’s newest marker joins hundreds of others that stand as beacons of honor and remembrance.
The memorial is located at Hunter Memorial Park’s Military Honor Garden, providing residents and visitors a place for reflection and appreciation of the Armed Forces.
